Abridge Profile  

Utibe Okon is an academic staff of the Department of Animal Science. He is a practical Animal Scientist and has a special research interest in Meat Science. As a researcher and animal farmer, his mission is to revolutionize livestock farming and elevate dining experiences by focusing on antemortem and postmortem factors that impact meat quality, slaughter management and animal welfare. 

One of the key aspects of his research is the meticulous management of livestock diets. By fine-tuning their nutrition, he aims to produce meat that is high in quality and meets the strictest safety standards. He believes that the connection between what our animals consume and the quality of the products they yield is a captivating intersection where science and farming harmonize. His passion does not end with research. Beyond the laboratory and the farm, he is also a fervent culinary enthusiast. His vision is to lead the charge in culinary innovation, a journey that plays a significant role in diversifying the culinary traditions of Nigeria. 

He is dedicated to introducing an array of fresh, captivating dishes crafted from animal products, redefining the culinary landscape. His goal is to offer a new and exciting range of flavours, textures, and experiences that captivate the Nigerian palate, pushing the boundaries of the ordinary. Apart from his research background, he has accumulated approximately five years of professional experience as a Research Assistant and Lecturer, teaching undergraduate courses. He has also taken on various administrative roles at both the Department and Faculty levels of the University. His ability to work collaboratively, leadership capabilities, dedication, and strong willingness to learn in challenging situations provide him with a distinct advantage in thriving in any professional setting. 

He is a member of the Poultry Science Society, Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Academy, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, Nigerian Society for Animal Production.
