Dr. John Etitigwun Ukpatu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Fisheries and Aquaculture, with strong academic and professional training in zoology and environmental management. His teaching, research, and community service focus on fisheries biology, hydrobiology, environmental assessment, and artisanal fisheries management.
Dr. Ukpatu has extensive administrative experience, having served as Acting Head of Department, Deputy Dean of Agriculture, SIWES Coordinator, and Managing Editor of the AKSU Journal of Agriculture and Food Sciences. He has successfully supervised postgraduate research and actively participates in quality assurance and accreditation activities.
His research interests span fish population dynamics, water quality assessment, shrimp fisheries, environmental impact assessment, and human health risk analysis of aquatic resources. Beyond academia, he is an experienced fisheries and hydrobiology expert who has contributed to several Environmental Impact Assessment and post-impact studies across the Niger Delta. He is a member of recognized professional bodies, including FISON and SAERAM, and is committed to advancing sustainable fisheries, environmental protection, and capacity building in Nigeria.
